FAQ

WHAT IS AN ESTATE SALE

The term "estate sale" generally refers to the sale of personal property, i..e. furniture, appliances, china, books, linens, etc. It differs from a garage sale because it generally involves the entire contents of a household and is normally held inside the home. This process is sometimes called a "Tag Sale."

Such a sale may be needed after a loved one's death or move to a care facility, downsizing or moving from your current home, a result of divorce or any other lifestyle change. We know how difficult it can be to sort out the entire contents of a home, often accumulated over the course of a lifetime. It can be overwhelming to decide what to do with everything else after the family has removed items of sentimental value. We are here to help during such times.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PREPARE A SALE?

A good estate sale professional will be able to keep preparation time down to a minimum, usually two week for an average size sale. Time is required for sorting, pricing, displaying, and advertising deadlines. We want to make sure that everything is organized and displayed appropriately before the sale begins.

WHAT IS DONE WITH THE ITEMS THAT DO NOT SELL?

The entire sale process is fully disclosed up front before the start of the sale. Any items that do not sell may be kept by the owner, family members or donated to a charity at your discretion.

Disposal of unsold items is the sole responsibility of the owner or spouse, or estate executor.

Buy-outs are an option.

DO I NEED TO BE PRESENT DURING THE SALE?

An owner is certainly welcome to be present. However, most agents will agree that it seems easier for family to stay away. This is a very emotional time and it is just less painful to not witness the actual sale. The owner's presence at the sale can be intimidating for customers and, in fact, rarely helps to increase the proceeds from the sale.

DO YOU HAVE ANY HIDDEN FEES?

Any fees would be as follows: our commission, advertising expenses, and credit card processing fees. Additional fees may include dumpster rental and clean-out only if applicable. No charges will ever be incurred without the client's approval.
